Lilian Jackson was born on June 20, 1913, in Willimansett, a village within the city of Chicopee, Massachusetts. She was married to Earl Bettinger and lived in North Carolina. She once lived in Bad Ax, Michigan — similar to “Pick Ax,” where her novels are based. Her protagonists are Jim Qwilleran and two cats, Koko and Yum Yum. Braun died in 2011.
